DAY 1 - Feeling hungry!
Yep, I'm hungry but that is totally my fault! So for the last 10 days I have been doing the lime and Himalayan salt mix. For those of you who don't know about this it supposedly has the benefits of increasing cortisol levels so you have more energy and decreases belly fat. I have always struggled to get up in the mornings so thought I would give it a go. Actually I have to say I have had a really positive reaction to the lime and salt. I am much more energised in the mornings and can function for much longer without my morning coffee (which I was totally reliant on). The recipe for the lime and salt is 1/4 teaspoon of Himalyan Salt and the juice of 1 lime mixed with filtered water. Take it first thing when you wake up. Here's a link to the supposed health benefits of the mixture http://www.strengthsensei.com/start-the-day-right-lime-salt-water/ have a look for yourselves! Word of warning - it really does get everything moving (if you know what I mean) and be even more careful if you have a coffee too!
Anyway I digress - so I had my lime and salt then I pretty much had to get straight up and going this morning as I had a meeting with my agent. I consequently left the house without eating any breakfast - naughty!!
After my meeting I then walked back into Soho in search of food, I knew what I needed to eat, the book clearly states which foods you can and can't have in your little boxes, the challenge was finding somewhere I could get my fix. To top to all off it was raining and freezing so I was craving something hot. Luckily Balans Cafe was my saviour. I sheepishly entered and asked if I could do an off menu option. Result - Grilled chicken, spinach and poached eggs!
Off I popped full of goodness to my singing lesson. I really should have eaten before my lesson though as with every deep inhale my belly rumbled. After I had finished I popped into Tesco and planned my dinner (by this time I had missed lunch). The book says you work out your calorie target and then it tells you how many pots of each food group you can have throughout the day. The calories target is worked out as follows
A: Your current weight in pounds x 11 = your calorific baseline
B: Your calorific baseline + 400 (fix calorie burn) = your calorific needs
C: Your calorific needs - 750 (calorific deficit) = your calorific target
mine worked out as 1200 calories a day in order to lose weight. In terms of boxes I could eat per day
3 Green - Vegetables
2 Purple - Fruit
4 Red - Protein
2 Yellow - Complex carbs
1 Blue - Nuts
1 Orange - Seeds
1 Orange - Oils
You need to drink plenty of water and you can have herbal teas.
I bought : -
Salmon fillets, Sweet potatoes, Salad pot, Natural Greek Yoghurt, Mango chunks, Blueberries and some seeds.
I can not tell you how hungry I was, I will definitely be eating at much shorter intervals tomorrow. However I still hadn't done my daily workout - food had to wait. I did the first workout scheduled on the plan - Total Body Cardio Fix. You need a mat, weights and water. I stupidly didnt have a mat or weights so improvised with bottles of water. I teach Insanity and consider myself to be pretty fit and I had reservations that I wouldn't get anything from these workouts. I was imagining them to be the namby pamby aerobic style workouts that I despise. However I was pleasantly surprised. I sweated and found some parts challenging! Happy days. Workout done - I then took the physical warm up at The Commitments - extra calorie burn! Finally it was time for my food. I put all of my ingredients into the coloured boxes and then put them on my plate. Essentially this was two meals in one and I was surprised how big my usual portions were. This was essentially two meals on my plate and I would have quite happily eating this all in one sitting. Dinner was amazing! I then continued on my normal routine getting ready for the show and performing this evening. My usual routine is to grab some food when I get home and my stomach was rumbling again. However determined not to fail on my first day I made myself a protein shake and settled in for the night. As I finish writing this blog its 1.03am and yep I am still hungry! However I won't be beaten - not today anyway. Off to bed I go with my little sleepy dog (boyfriend is out on the lash!). This is him by the way - the dog - not the boyfriend!
